What is Prana Pratishtha?
In the ancient Vedic tradition of Sanatana Dharma, Prana Pratishtha is a highly sacred ritual through which divine life-force (Prana-Urja) is invoked into a sculptural artifact using scriptural chants and prescribed rites.
At Devprana, each sacred idol undergoes 7 days of holy rites by our revered and experienced Vedic acharyas before being installed in your home temple, so that you may welcome not just an idol, but a manifest divine presence into your home.
The Sacred Steps of 7-Day Prana Pratishtha (The 7 Steps)
Step 1: Sankalpa & Deva-Avahana
On the first day of the ritual, the Acharya takes a pure-hearted Sankalpa (vow) for the welfare of the patron and devotee. Following this, the concerned deity is invoked with sacred Vedic mantras and requested to be seated on the holy pedestal.
Step 2: Jaladhivas
On the second day, the idol is immersed (adhivas) in the waters of holy rivers and Gangajal. The water element removes all physical impurities from the idol, making it supremely sattvic and energetic.
Step 3: Annadhivas
On the third day, the idol is placed amidst sacred grains (cereals like wheat, rice, sesame, etc.). Grain symbolizes the earth element, which imbues the idol with stability and nourishing energy.
Step 4: Pushpadhivas
On the fourth day, the idol is covered with fragrant and fresh divine flowers. The fragrance and sattvic nature of the flowers permeate the atmosphere with supreme peace, devotion, and sweet energy.
Step 5: Phaladhivas
On the fifth day, the idol is placed in the company of various seasonal fruits. Fruits symbolize completeness and the attainment of auspicious results, awakening feelings of prosperity and well-being in the idol.
Step 6: Vastradhivas
On the sixth day, the Lord is adorned with silk and sacred garments. This ritual provides covering to the idol, enhancing its brilliance, dignity, and divine aura.
Step 7: Netronmeelan & Prana Pratishtha
On the final and most important day, the Acharyas open the sacred eyes of the Lord with a special golden needle and honey/ghee (Netronmeelan). Subsequently, divine life-force is infused into the limbs of the idol through Bija Mantras and Vedic chanting.
